Geographical importance of Oahu

There are a total of eight main islands which together form the state of Hawaii, which is one of the states of the United States of America. These islands are situated in the middle of Japan and California in the Pacific Ocean. The island of Oahu is one of these eight main islands of the state of Hawaii. Among all the eight islands Oahu has the status of being ranked the third with respect to the area.

The island of Oahu has an area of around six hundred square miles. The major portion of the population of the state of Hawaii has their home in Oahu. The coastline of Oahu is very beautiful and varied, and it stretches to around one hundred miles. There are number of beaches which are famous all over the world which are located in Oahu. There are two volcanic mountain ranges in the island of Oahu. They are the Koolau and the Waianae, but both of these have been dormant for a long time.

Because of the geography of the island of Oahu, it is known as a paradise. This is because of two main factors. And they are the weather which is simply fantastic, and the scenery which is exotic and spectacular. The water which is in the surroundings of the island is warm enough throughout the year so that people can swim in it. There are a lot of people who think that the climate of Oahu is rainy jungle and tropical. But this notion is only correct in the parts of Oahu which are mountainous. In the other parts of the island the amount of rainfall is reasonable even though they are lush.

Another reason why Oahu is so important geographically is because at Pearl Harbor and at the commercial port of Honolulu there is an enclosed fleet anchorage which is excellent. The location of Pearl Harbor at the southern part of Oahu s important both commercially and strategically in the North Pacific Ocean.
