| It was one of the first places that got discovered by the crew members of the squad of Captain James Cook who was making his third expedition at the time of its discovery. The first visit of Oahu by Europeans however happened in the year 1779 and the next milestone in the changes that took place in the land are confined to the attack on the pearl harbor. There was death and destruction to the islands and the lives of many changed forever.

There are many cultural festivals that are held here every now and then to attract more tourists as well as for the propagation of the Hawaiian culture and traditions which are basically uniform throughout the state of Hawaii as their origin is from a single place but some superficial differences exist in between them because of the different varieties of immigrants that later settled in each area. |
